Album Artist Showing As Artist

Postby chipmunkofdoom2 » Fri Apr 07, 2017 3:31 pm

Hello,

I have encountered an issue with Subsonic. It appears that in some cases (perhaps all), Album Artist is showing as the Artist. An example is one of my soundtracks, War of the Worlds. The artist shows as "Original Soundtrack" in the search and thumbnail previews:

However, when I click into the album, it shows the Artist, which is correctly populated as John Williams:

When I attempt to update the tags, the artist also shows as John Williams, which is correct:

When I checked the file metadata in Windows, it appears that the Album Artist was set to Original Soundtrack, which is likely where this was coming from:

I manually updated the Album Artist to John Williams, cleaned-up the database and scanned all media folders, but unfortunately, the artist is still showing as "Original Soundtrack" on the album thumbnail and in the search results. I have restarted the Subsonic service on my server, restarted the server itself, cleared all browser data, tried multiple browsers (Firefox + Chrome), but the artist is still showing as "Original Soundtrack". There are several other albums for which this is happening. I am experiencing the exact same behavior with those.

I am running Subsonic version 6.0 (build a7857c) – April 30, 2016. I am running Subsonic on Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS.

The artwork and id3 info is generally cached once loaded. The only fix I know of is to make sure the file/folder is 'new'. You can do this by renaming a parent folder, running a full scan, click clean up database.
then move folder back again, rescan, and cleanup.

(to clarify: if the folder itself doesn't change, subsonic's scans won't look deeper to see if the files are different)

Thank you, your suggestion worked. It is unfortunate that this is the only remedy to this issue. There are several albums in my library for which this will need to be done, and if I essentially remove them and scrub all the old data from the database, I lose ratings, play counts, etc. There is a "Scan media folders now" option, I must wonder why there is not a "deep" scan now option that can be run ad-hoc to address these tag changes. I also must wonder why there is no option to update "Album Artist" through the front end if this is a field that Subsonic uses.

Regardless, thanks again for the help.

I should have thought of this sooner, a less "destructive" solution to get the folder to seem different (but my experience with it varies in how successful it is) is to change something else in the folder. add a text file, just an empty "hi.txt", then rescan *might* get it to look through the folder to find differences. maybe. You could try it first and then only if it doesn't, go through the more destructive.

I'm kinda weird: I have no interest in play counts or how recent anything was played, and I haven't (yet) bothered to start rating my files at all, 'cause Subsonic doesn't give an easy way (in the web view) to rate individual files...though I know some clients do, and I plan to write one myself after I finish two other projects i'm in the middle of.
