Does Subsonic have Android Auto support?

Postby King Mustard » Sun Dec 22, 2019 1:40 pm

It's the main reason I've downloaded the Subsonic trial but I'm not seeing it on my car screen.

The App DSub, at the google play store, is the one with the best Android Auto support. I use it regularly for long trips even though I've written my own apps. DSub caches like the original Android app and so handles long stretches where there's no network very well, such as when I'm driving through national parks like Skyline Drive in Shenandoah.

Costs a few bucks, but worth it. Generally very stable.

(sometimes it gets stuck on 'finding next selection...' - simply tap the music choice icon of Auto and tap DSub again and usually it'll "wake up", a minor little thing)

Do you have to pay for both Subsonic and DSub or just DSub?

To use any app you have to pay the license to Subsonic itself for the server you run at home. You have a 30 day trial license once you install and start the server. (There are alternative forks of the server available elsewhere, with varying levels of active support, but this is not the place to discuss them.)

Subsonic the Android app is free at Google Play (but costs a little on Amazon's store) but as noted, it does not have Auto support. There is no requirement to having or using the official Android app.

DSub costs a little on Google Play (3.99) but that is a one-time charge.

It's $12/year for the subsonic server, or $99 for a lifetime license. I paid for the first year but will most likely get a lifetime license when I renew. I have over 35,500 CDs in my collection and it's so sweet having access to my full collection whenever I want.

Totally agree on DSub as the best option for Android Auto. Huge fan.
