Totally agree, this database support is no good for a lot of reasons.

I had to remove all my library from subsonic and add it again the other day and I lost all the content of my playlists it seems. Very frustrating.
When the playlists where M3U, they were static and I didn't have problems with changing locations of the files...

Also, where is the database stored now? (maybe I can still save something)

Thanks,

Chris

Yes, I found the folder in Ubuntu under /var/subsonic/

It looks like all is lost, my playlists are gone!

I can't begin to express how disappointing this is. I had a few valued playlists here and I know that, although subsonic is a good piece of software, I'd not like to trust it managing my files. I thought it was unnecessary to move the playlists to its own DB, but now I really started to regret deleting the M3U files I only kept for SubSonic in the first place.

Not good :(

Ok, I've resigned myself to this inferior playlist management. Now this is my new problem:

I imported the whole of my old playlist folder into Subsonic, and this works ok -- at least at first. But if I change any of the original .m3u playlists, none of the changes show up in Subsonic until I re-import the changed .m3u files as new Subsonic playlists. But if I do so Subsonic shows two playlists of the same name and I do not know how to delete the first one. Can I automate this whole process so that Subsonic scans my .m3us for changes and deletes the old ones?

I'm just trying to replicate the functionality that was taken away...

Good to know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I reverted to 4.6 without much pain, and won't upgrade
until I know the new version supports users who actually pay attention to their playlists.
Whatever improvements 4.7 brings are irrelevant without this.

Which brings me to my favorite soapbox topic -
what can the users do to encourage Subsonic and MediaMonkey to integrate?
That would be some great software.

Post detailed, well written feature requests about specific functions that MediaMonkey has and Subsonic hasn't. Include screenshots etc. Draw pictures to explain how it could look in Subsonic.

If your idea is appealing to a developer, he or she will pick it up and implement it.

i thought i would bump this subject to see the current status.

i'm still on 4.6 and read the release notes for 4.8 and 4.9. it seems that 4.8 was suppose to add back the file based playlist functionality... can anyone confirm this is now working again on 4.8 or 4.9??

So, just to revive this, version 6 still does not have this ability.

I have similar problems with CasaTunes,
but they really anticipate the user(s) are mostly using streaming services.

Subsonic doesn't have any real playlist-building features
like MediaMonkey or it's competitors (if there are any),
and if software can do something at a user prompt,
it can do it on a schedule.

I'm sketching out some ideas for an external playlist editor. Can you describe (feel free to PM me instead of writing it all here) what features you would desire in it?

(note: I don't use, nor ever heard of, Media Monkey, so if there's something from there you like you'd need to describe it in detail)
