Like someone else said, serving music files is a great use for an older computer. Anyway, if you're thinking of supporting 10.3.x, here's one vote for yes!

Thanks.

Unfortunately it may come down what version of Java can be installed. If there is some way to install java 1.5 not going through Apple's official update method then it should be able to be supported. But right now it looks like 1.4.2 is the highest version that the 10.3.x series supports from Apple, and as Sindre said, 1.5 is required for Subsonic.

I wondered about that...I was looking at the stand-alone just now and trying to see what Java I had...doesn't look promising. Oh well. Currently I'm running Subsonic on a laptop but started worrying about leaving that on for days at a time...it doesn't run hot at all but still not sure if that's as safe as running a desktop like that.

As long as it's not running hot, there's nothing worse about leaving a laptop on than a desktop. It's the heat that's dangerous. Just make sure to set your laptop's display to go to sleep to save the LCD, and you should have no problems.

Is there still a build for Tiger available somewhere? On the website (which is down right now) it doesn't list anything for Tiger.

I don't believe so, but I have had success running the 'standalone' version of subsonic with 10.5 and Java 1.5.

Hi folks,

I got the standalone working just fine on Tiger 10.4.11, for some reason it defaults to 4040 instead of 80, but that is not a problem. In order to get this to work, I had to download this:

http://supportdownload.apple.com/downlo ... lease9.dmg

I posted in the help section looking for advice on how to autostart subsonic standalone on boot under OS X, but got no response, read the various "how to" threads but nothing worked, so if anyone has any good ideas about that, it would be fine to launch on login instead of boot, please let me know.
