I subsonic installed on Ubuntu and I can't connect to my music from outside the network using Galaxy S3 phone

I can only connect from my network using wifi

I have port 4040 forwarded and it is open in my router and in Ubuntu machine

xps8300@xps8300-XPS-8300:~$ netstat -anltp | grep "LISTEN"
(Not all processes could be identified, non-owned process info
will not be shown, you would have to be root to see it all.)
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:139 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN -
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:5900 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2058/vino-server
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:53 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN -
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:631 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN -
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:17500 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2140/dropbox
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:445 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN -
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:63429 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 3506/python
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:63590 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2215/skype
tcp6 0 0 :::5800 :::* LISTEN 2058/vino-server
tcp6 0 0 :::4040 :::* LISTEN -

Testing port forwarding with http://www.yougetsignal.com

I get Port 4040 is open on

In subsonic network configuration I have Status: xxxx.subsonic.org responded successfully.

Where could be the problem?

Does your phone connect to the Subsonic demo server?

Hi Gary,

My phone connect to Subsonic demo using 3g, no problem at all.

It works on wifi connection from my network only

Subsonic works on Ubuntu only on FF browser, chrome does not work any more, it stop working last week, all links get broken after clicking on them

I have UPNP disabled in my router
I have port 4040 configuered manullay in my router for tcp
I have Automatically configure your router disbaled in subsonic

Access your server over the Internet -----> Status: Successfully registered web address.

Where can be the problem? Maybe is the modem Cisco EPC2425?

Port 4040 tested with http://www.yougetsignal.com

Port 4040 is open

Thanks

The recent chrome update seems to have broke quite a few things.
  • Spell-checker stopped working - require toggling off an advanced setting to fix.
  • Will not work with BBC IPlayer desktop- you have to use another browser
  • And no doubt other issues yet to be discovered
That is on Windows :(

I have changed my port to 8090 in usr/bi/subsonic and the SUBSONIC_USER variable in /etc/default/subsonic

The same problem. I open subsonic xxx.8090.org and I get Status: xxx.subsonic.org responded successfully.

My port is forwarding to 8090

Don't know what else to do, go for a beer, it probably helps :)

Which .apk are you using on the phone? I have an SIII and I run a few different Subsonic apps that are working fine.

There are a few apps in the forums that are working well with ICS.

You should also clear and reenter the credentials again, just to be sure.

I'll send you a PM to my server so you can test your phone on it. You could possibly also have some sort of issue with your carrier, are you using SSL?

Hi Gary,

I'm not using SSL. I bought Dsub application and still it doesn't work

Trying your connections from subsonic and dsub I get

A network error occurred. retrying. Please check the server address or try again later

Click on connect again and I get

Connection failure. Host name may not be null

It could be jelly bean and the apps. I can open your two links in my machine, no problem

Again only work on WIFI

I think jelly bean or Samsung are blocking some connections on 3G and they only work on WIFI

What else can we do to get it to work?

Most definitely sounds like a JB/rom issue.

I retested everything on my S 3 and all is well. I'm running an ICS custom rom that is very close to stock ICS with a coulpe of tweaks.

The current Subsonic app is just catching up to ICS. I didn't know that JB was out yet for the S III.

The Sprint JB update just leaked.

Ok. I'll be waiting for subsonic to catch up to jelly bean official release for S Galaxy S III.

Thanks Gary

Hi Gary,

Is subsonic still not working for streaming over the internet from Galay S3 with jelly bean 4.1.1?
I just tested streaming from my WHS and still I can do it only over WIFI, it doesn't work over 3g

Thanks

I've tested all variants of the Android apps on my Sammy GSIII currently using the Wicked Sensations v1.0 Jelly Bean rom.

- Music plays fine over 3g or wifi withone obvious bug. The first track hiccups after the first 30sec - 1 min. then goes back to the beginnig of the track. Then it gets about 3/4 of the way through and jumps to the second track.

- I can't get flash to install on this rom, even though I've had success getting Flash installed on other JB roms. As a result, I can't get any video to play.

I didn't have either of these issues when I was using ICS on the GSIII.

I'd probably drop back to ICS, but I'm tired of palying the rom flashing game and I don't have much need to use SS for video as I can easily drop the most recent stuff into google plus and just pull it from there. At this point I think I'll just ride it out until someone comes up with a better SS solution that's compatible with JB.

HTH

Very strange. I do not have custom room. Just original jelly bean 4.1.1and I can only stream music over WiFi
I thought it could be ubuntu but I tried also streaming from my whs and it is the same. Only I can stream using WiFi
Port 4040 is open and forwarded
Thanks anyway
