DSub/Subsonic Android not playing m4a files.

Postby seth.feinberg » Fri Oct 12, 2012 3:03 am

Whenever I try to play a file with the extension .m4a on my VZW Galaxy Nexus running JellyBean it doesn't actually play. I'm taken to the "Now Playing" screen but the time bar never advances. This happens with both DSub and the Subsonic App. I can't say for sure but I'm guessing the files i have of this type are from iTunes, is that what's giving me the issues?

I found this post: viewtopic.php?p=19145#19145 but really don't fully understand what I'm doing there. I gather those are chains of info I should put in the lines of Settings->Transcoding but I'm not familiar with whats actually being done...

Any help fixing/understanding better this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I just now realized that subsonic's web GUI isn't playing these m4a files either. It was stupid of me not to check before but here I am.

Also, I'm not sure if this is related but this error appears constantly in my log:

WARN RESTFilter Error in REST API: NullPointerException

and these are the stats it lists in the top left-hand corner:

0 artists
0 albums
1 songs
0 B (~ 0 hours)

despite the list on the left being populated by all of the artists in my ~250gb collection and all of them being able to be played with the exception of those that are m4a format. It was refreshing yesterday and the last line was constantly increasing (the last one I saw before I went to bed was like 120gb) but it said 0 artist and 0 albums the whole time.

Alright I'm ready to close the issue. I've uninstalled and reinstalled subsonic about 10 times now (trying both the stable 4.7 branch and the madsonic mashup mod), with varying "clean-up activities" in between each re-install (deleted any remnants from the file structure, restarts of the NAS box etc) and it seems pretty obvious at this point that its only not playing music I purchased from iTunes which makes perfect sense.

So the topic I've started this thread for I believe is solved. However i have 2 other infuriatingly random issues with the current install. But I won't bore you guys with them here and possibly start another thread...
