So I want to get my mom to watch movies i download for her that are on my server......problem is she only watches stuff on tv... and is not very computer friendly. I know subsonic is available on roku/Google TV and browsers...... If I get a roku or a google tv set top box can she stream the movies to her house? Will these also allow her to adjust the bitrate being she may be on a slower cable internet connection? Are there any other options/ devices on the market or coming out that will allow her to do this? Thanks in advance

Her download connection speed may not be the limiting factor but your upload speed maybe.
Also what format video's do the devices mentioned play? eg will you need to transcode?

I would run XBMC on something, for $35 a RaspberryPi works great. Anyways I've took T0mm0's xmbc audio plugin and have been modifying it more towards working better with videos. Anyways if you want to check out the plugin.
