different port number for downloads and streaming?

Postby zuurkool » Sat Feb 16, 2013 8:13 pm

Hi

In my new home I only have 0.34mbit upstream (I used to have 10mbit upstream so bandwidth feels a bit tight right now)

With the QOS of my router (TomatoUSB firmware) I can shape the traffic pretty good, but it fails to recognize the difference between streaming and uploading from my Subsonic server.

It would be a lot easier to shape the traffic if I could set a different port number for uploading (= downloading by visitors) and streaming.
That way I could give uploading lower priority, so streaming won't be interrupted by people downloading from my server.

So my question: is it possible to configure a different port number for streaming and uploading?

It is not. Both use http (or https) as a protocol on the same port.

That's a pity. I will try to play a bit more with L7 DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) on my routers QOS, but it fails to recognize the mp3 stream, let alone ogg-vorbis (which I use a lot for mobile devices).
