scanning new files in not working again

OK this has happened before (couple of months ago)and needed to shut everything down and reinstall but this time want to get to the bottom of it.
added some files yesterday and it scanned them, found them and watched the video today. no problem.
Added some more files 10 all in all today
scanned twice now and still has not picked up the new files.
Nothing has changed at all from yesterdays scan, only the additional 10 files i put in the share.
so what do i need to do to trouble shoot this as a fair number of people are having this problem and happy to go through anything i need to go through to get this sorted

The code that starts the scanning is up here: http://svn.code.sf.net/p/subsonic/code/ ... rvice.java
You can access your local database by going to (yourhost)/db.view in a browser

So I guess (if you want to track this down), read the code, figure out how it works, and what assumptions in it are wrong. I think it's related to only reading modified date of folders instead of keeping track of all files but I may be wrong.
