How to connect locally for the first time.

I've got Subs intalled on ubuntu and loaded with some test music.

I've got a Mac and and Android phone on the same subnet that can ping the Ubuntu Subs machine. Most of the documentation is for internet connection probs...How to do I connect to the sucker?

I read in a thread that I should be able to browse to (in my case) http://172.19.0.150/index.view and I guess I would be served a login page and then access to the Subs interface?

I can't reach that page so either I've misunderstood the whole concept of Subs, I've got the syntax wrong or there's some sort of ACL on my subnet that prevents me from using that port.

I wish there was a dedicated sticky for local use.

Thanks in advance. I can't wait to hear my first song!

Add the port number to the URL

http://172.19.0.150:4040/index.view

No love.

Thanks for that Gary. Sorry for overlooking the 4040. I really thought it was going to work.

Oh well. I guess I'll try some port scanning to see what to do next.

Sorry I don't know more about Linux, but you are probably being blocked by a firewall your router isn't frowarding to the port correctly.

Test access on the local machine. http://localhost:port#forSubsonic - if that doesn't work then it isn't set up correctly.

If it works on the local host, go to http://canyouseeme.org and test to see if the port used for Subsonic is open from the outside world. If it fails, then you know it's port forwarding or the port being blocked somewhere.

That's okay about the Linux. I'm learning, too.

at the moment my browser shows localhost:4040/index.view and I'm using that page to configure my users and music.

Is there some sort of, "make subsonic online" step that I have somehow overlooked? After I get the local page and load some music is it automatically reachable if you have a username and the local machine's IP:port address?

Thanks for getting involved, Gary.

And the results of checking the port from canyouseeme?

Can you access the site from another device INSIDE your network?

I'm an idiot. I got it working.

This must have been in the "Getting Started" area. I had to create the type of player each user uses in order to "activate" the server. I had three users setup but I hadn't chosen the type of player each user was allowed to use.

The crappy thing about that is it just makes the server look unreachable.... I wish they'd have thrown me a bone by saying, "You're almost done. Setup a player to make the server reachable."

Thanks again, Gary. So sweet to finally get something out of it. My Android and Mac are both connecting to an Ubuntu server and uploads and playing are working great!

Thanks again for taking the time to help a noob.
