Quirks I found in Subsonic

Postby usalabs » Thu Sep 19, 2013 4:25 am

OK, here's a few quirks I found in SS between what should be and shouldn't be made available to users, and if anyone says SS is just for an individual to listen to music anywhere and on some devices, then there's no point in having a user base, ok, so here's the list.

1....Admin allows user to change settings and password, fine, but in the settings the options that a user should not see are:-
'Notify me about new versions'
'Notify me about beta versions'

Why would a user want to get notified about new versions? He/She can't do anything about it, the admin should be the only one to get the notice.

2.....Players section.
The jukebox selection should only be shown if admin allows the user to use it.
Maxbite rate should only be made available to the admin as a global setting, thus stopping bandwidth hogging, even though the admin can change this in the players settings, the user can override it and choose 'unlimited'

3.....About section
The log file should only be visible to the admin, not users, users don't want to know folder locations and errors, etc etc, that's the admins job if anything goes wrong.

+1

I'm using SS since forever. Have tons of music & users.
Everything usalabs says is totally true.
I'm changing the interface by hand to achieve this.
And it is strange that more people are not noticing that.

Oh and one more thing ...
I believe the user should not be able to change the path when uploading files.

Anyway great product and epic work from the author.

Best Regards,
Ivan

I would be interested in what manual changes you made, specifically for the players settings. :)
