Album vs. song queuing

The changelog for 4.9b4 has
When clicking the play icon for a song, add whole album to play queue.

I've been using this for a few days now, and I've found it to be quite annoying. What's the use case that this new behavior is intended to address?

In general, when I click the play button next to something, I expect that what I click on starts playing. If I want to play an album, I'll usually click "Play All" on the album page.

In search results, and on the album page, when I click the play button, the whole album is enqueued and the 1st track of the album starts playing (even if I clicked on the 4th track of the album). Perhaps that's a bug?

As an update, the behavior I'm describing appears to be a bug in jukebox mode.

I couldn't find a 4.9 milestone on the Subsonic bugs page, so here's my report.

REPRO:
  • In 4.9b4, go to an album page.
  • With a Web player, click the play button next to the second track of the album. Everything is enqueued, and track two starts playing, as expected.
  • Switch to a Jukebox player. Clear the playlist.
  • Click the play button next to the second track of the album, as before. Everything is enqueued, but the FIRST track starts playing. This is true for any track, not just the second.

Thanks again for a great piece of software!

As an update, this appears to be resolved with the official 4.9 release.

Thank you!

I am running the official 4.9 release and I am still having a similar problem. It loads the song I selected and every song that follows in the folder. Any idea how to stop this?

Thanks for a fantastic app that I love!

This is by design. Select + 'play last' to play individual songs without generating any playlist.

This seems like a strange "feature". I would think pressing the play button next to a song would load and play only that song.

Ah, the bug I was reporting was that it seemed to be queuing the whole album regardless of which track you select.

For example, I press play on track 4, it queues up and starts playing at track 1. This issue has been resolved. It now queues up tracks 4 through the end of the album and starts playing there.

I agree that it's a little weird, but I've come to like it. Remember when you'd put a CD or (gasp) record on to hear a particular song, and the rest of the album keeps playing when it's over?

OK, if that's the intention, I can live with it....especially in the record context.
Subsonic's been so good, this isn't worth complaining over.
Thanks spitzanator and alphawave7 for your replies.

Yep..spitzanator had a bug, now fixed, Genius had a 'feature', now understood. I know its tough to get used to changes, but queuing from a given starting point is how many players are defaulting these days. I got used to it using Google Music All Access, for example. While I like the change myself, and the play last workaround is easy, I agree with others it should be a toggled preference to keep everyone happy. :)
