Does subsonic de-duplicate? (first post!)

Postby hungarianhc » Tue Jan 27, 2015 4:32 am

Hi All,

I'm not sure why it took me so long to discover Subsonic... It seems like the perfect replacement for iTunes..... I have a powerful NAS, etc. I'm ready to get this sucker going. However, one question... does it de-duplicate? I'm thinking that if I had a root folder called music, with two sub-folders, "me" and "wife," I could use btsync to automatically sync both my wife's library and MY library to Subsonic... and then when we use subsonic apps, it won't show duplicates, etc. Pipe dream? Built-in reality? THanks!

Subsonic can handle several media folders, so you can have one folder for your wife and one folder for you. Within the subsonic apps you can select the folder you want to listen. But if you want to combine both libraries in the same folder and not have duplicates i believe it's out of the scope of subsonic

Darn. I was hoping to combine them. While it doesn't support that, can you explain why it would be out of scope? For example, iTunes has a function to corral all duplicates. I understand it isn't supported and perhaps low / non existent on the list, but I'm interested to learn why it might be completely out of scope. Thanks!

Sorry mate I don't have an answer for those questions. What I recommend is to merge both libraries and keep it organized in order to get the complete subsonic experience (It could be a lot of work depending on the size of your library, but at the end all the effort is worth).

To organize your library you have to use other tools like MusicBrainz or mediaMonkey.

Follow this guide to organize your library according to subsonic standars http://monroeworld.com/android/subsonic/ (go to the section About Music Organization and Display)

P.S. Though, you can submit a "feature request" for the de-duplication
