Network latency while downloading

Running the latest 5.2beta1

When downloading a movie using subsonic I noticed that my network latency takes a huge hit, consistent ping times of 100-400ms and even packets dropped entirely. I have 120Mbps down/20Mbps up comcast.

I used to use the comcast router/modem combo and I do not remember this happening before, although I do not know for sure. Recently I switched to a Motorola sb6120 modem and a sonicwall TZ210 firewall. The only rules set up on the firewall are the port forwarding rules, no other security is enabled. When I do a bandwidth test I am getting the full 120Mbps. But yea, as soon as a movie is downloading the latency goes off the charts. Streaming seems to affect it as well, but not nearly as much as downloading.

I have a hunch that it's an issue with the hardware, but I'd like to see if anybody with more experience has any other thoughts. I guess it's possible that this is common and I just never noticed, not too many people use the download feature for my subsonic instance. Is it possible that the latency is from the motorola+sonicwall, and if I switch back to the comcast modem/router combo that this will be a non-issue?

When you saturate your upstream with asynchronous providers like Comcast your downstream suffers greatly. Enable QOS on your sonicwall and do not allow the upstream bandwidth to surpass 85-90% of your upstream.
