'Recently Added' not populating when music is added

I'm running a fresh install on my brand new headless ubuntu box. Whenever I add music to my directory and then rescan (manually or overnight scheduled), the music appears in the index on the left and plays without issue, but does not appear in recently added. In fact, the only music in recently added it from my very first scan of my library.

Not sure if it could be responsible, but I created a special SubSonic user as per the documentation so that it is not running with root access.

Any ideas? That's by far my most used feature for finding new music I routinely add.
