Missing Artist Artwork

I have a serious problem i have been unable to fix. The issue started around version 4.5/4.6. Basically I have select Artist folders that refuse to display any artwork. I'm currently running 5.2.1 on Ubuntu 14.04. My directory structure is as follows:

/Music
/Genre
/Artist
/Albums

I dont have any problems with artwork on the album level, just on the artist level. When I create new folders under Artist its hit and miss which ones will work. All artwork is in folder.jpg format. Also the logs do not show any errors whatsoever for these artist. Even using the assign art work option does not work. I've tried removing the folders and re-adding from the folder level and from the UI with no success. This has been bothering me for so long and I'm hoping someone can help me out. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have this issue too. But only on some artwork. For example, I used subsonic to find album covers for all of Ravel. But even after a rescan, most= of them do not appear. Why? And yes, I checked permissions.

After nearly 3 years...and absolutely no help... :(...I have finally figured out the solution to this issue. It would appear that subsonic looks at every folder as an 'album'. If the folder contains 'singles', it will display the art work in that folder. If the folder only contains other nested folders, it will not show any artwork.

For example, I have a Korn artist folder under Rock. In the Korn folder, I have their entire discography. As soon as I added a song (preferably one that wasn't on an existing album for my own anal organization techniques :D ) to the Korn folder the artwork started to show through the UI as well as through iSub.

Hopefully in a new release their will be a change to have all folders show artwork regardless of this condition. For all who have this problem please make a suggestion to Sindre so he can include this new functionality.

Cheers

This does not answer my problem. Many album covers that are in the folder and are valid files do not display in the thumbnail view. Sometimes they display if I select the album. Sometimes if I zoom.

Why cant the Subsonic powers that be specify the requirements for album covers? Do they have a particular name? Size?

And some albums still do not play in Chrome, whereas they all play in Subair.

i have had some issues before with cover art not displaying correctly (FreeNAS 9+ server) when i have the issue what i do is delete my folder from the list in setting > media folders then i save to remove the folder. then click the shortcut to "clean-up database" then i refresh the page (IDK if this does anything just better safe then doing it over again i guess) then ill go back and add my folder again. seems to fix the recently added covers that are not showing for me. as far as what type of images are used for cover art there is a setting for that in settings > general > cover art files. it has a default value of "cover.jpg folder.jpg jpg jpeg gif png" subsonic saves images it gets from the built in google image search as cover.jpg i think.

Hi,

I've been using subsonic for a couple of weeks now and the only thing I don't get now is how to use the artist artwork. I encounter the same issue as you, I've tried different names and locations for the thumbnails, I've deleted / re created the folder, many times... they still don't show. Do you still have the same problem ?

Thanks,

Hi,

I had a look to /var/subsonic/subsonic.log, there were logs reporting a problem that had to do with java and blabla Reader .jpg
After reinstalling openjre-7-jdk restarting subsonic, cleaning the database... etc... (just in case) it worked.
Once it works, delete the cache of the browser, it's enough to update the thumbnails apparently.

Good luck, hope it helps

PS: I run it on a raspberry pi
