Subsonic Forum

Hi,

I ran Subsonic on a WinXP box for years up until several months ago, when I transitioned my media server to Ubuntu/MythTV.

I just got around to installing Subsonic on it (latest version 5.2.1 (build 4428)), it works as expected EXCEPT I can't seem to get it to show the list of artists that I'm used to in the left side menu.

Nor does it show the album cover thumbnails...

What I get is (on the left) the usual "refresh" and playlist options, but below that where there was always a list of artists all there is is...

897 artists
2,439 albums
22,543 songs
133.36 GB
4,050 hours

I thought maybe these were clickable, expandable links but clicking them does nothing.

The area in the middle of the screen where I'm used to seeing album covers is also blank...

Search doesn't find anything.

So... how can it know I've got 22,543 songs, but it can't find any of them?

Usual issue...Sindre made a change whereby even the admin needs to give his/herself permissions to the folders in settings. Enjoy!

Thanks... I readily admit to being a newbie in Linux, and the whole permissions thing is a bit foreign to me...

The machine is used inside my network and I'm not really concerned about the security of my music collection so I'd prefer to set permissions so that anyone logged in can do anything they want with the collection. The path to the folder is /home/todd/avraid1/music, I found a posting which implied setting permissions to

sudo chmod -R ugo+rw /home/todd/avraid1/music

would allow access to anyone on the system.

I executed that command, and the main folder and all subfolders show permissions as below:

drwxrwxrwx 14 mythtv mythtv 4096 Nov 26 2014

The "mythtv" user is because this is a mythtv box.

No change in subsonic behavior.

My /etc/defaults/subsonic showed that the Subsonic_User was me (not mythtv) so even though this permission change was supposed to allow anyone logged in access to this folder, I changed that to mythtv and rebooted.

No change in subsonic behavior.

I changed the Subsonic_User to the original - root - and rebooted.

No change....

I stopped there....

Any suggestions? I suspect I'm missing something very simple, but even with a long history of DOS behind me there are things about Linux that my head just does not yet wrap around...
