re-scan and discard not updating ID3 info?

Postby acroyear » Sat Dec 12, 2015 10:49 pm

So I've been cleaning up my ID3 tags, now that I can see the errors and inconsistencies (things like Yes vs YES, or Abba vs ABBA, or a-Ha vs A-Ha, or Jean Michelle Jarre vs Jean-Michelle Jarr).

Great.

I do that. I see it changed in the main app. I click play in the main app or in SubFire and I see the info changed in the text boxes.

I go back and run the artists query again on SubFire (getArtists). And guess what: I still get the older info. I'm still seeing the older artists' names that I got rid of.

I've even tried a complete re-scan and clean-up. No change. (relatedly, I've gotten rid of a folder or two, but they're still showing up no matter how many times i re-scan).

Anything I can do to clean this up, short of wiping my DB entirely and regenerating it from scratch?

No updates on this? No comments? This is increasingly annoying to have this out of date info my 'Artists' browsing, weeks after I'd cleaned up all my tags.

I know this isn't a real great option. But when I change a lot of ID3 info I just remove media folders and re import.

well, now one of the problems is that Subsonic's built-in editor will edit the artist field, but the ID3 sorting works against album-artist. slight contradiction there, and should probably be seen as a bug. That seems to be my main problem here, because aside from the artist ID3 query, there's no way to see that in the main UI.

nope. now it seems as though just removing album artist isn't enough. if the scanner doesn't find album artist existing anymore, it keeps what it had before. and it some how preserves this even through getting the folder wiped and replaced.

the only solution seems to be to first clean it up, then wipe it, then re-insert it but (this is the important bit) *change* the physical folder path in some way, so it no longer has any cached reference to the old location.

this folder path change is case-insensitive. Just going X in Y to X In Y wasn't enough to fix one.

grr...
