Fresh Server Build

Postby rakrimes » Wed Mar 16, 2016 2:49 am

Ok I am somewhat new to subsonic but I am able to have it set up just fine and run.

My question is I want to build a PC to run my server and thats it I have a desktop for gaming and a laptop for anything else I would like to build and fairly cheap rig to run just my server. I plan on using linux mint x64 as my OS, and I will not be doing any transcoding on the fly I don't now and don't intend to do so I stream my flac files as well as 320 MP3 with no issues.

I just don't know what I all "Need" to do this obviously a MOBO, RAM, Network Card, HDD, some kind of graphics for this build I'd accept integrated, atleast one USB 3.0, CPU doesnt have to be top of the line but I don't want to go to cheap either, PSU the lower the better electric bill is high enough lol.

So any help or suggestions would be great also if you need more info let me know I'll do my best to update it.

Thank You in advance

Hi,
Since the hardware demands for Subsonic are very low you can run it from any low-budget-machine you can think of.
In the past I ran Subsonic from a pc with a low-end mainbord, Intel Celeron CPU and 2 GB Ram. Win XP as host-system.
Had never any issues with it.
I now run Subsonic from a virtual machine. Windows Server 2008 R2 as host-system and again no issues.
I guess all you have to do is find out what are the minimum requirements for Linux Mint to run smoothly, add a little overhead to it and you'll be good to go.
Succes.
