Feature question: how much do you use 'chat'?

As I'm brainstorming ideas for SubFire 2's TV interface (including Chromecast), looking for ways to simplify it and put more of the music selection complexity in using apps or desktop as a 'remote control' for it, I'm also looking at what other small text-based things I can add to the view besides the Last.fm info (and lyrics).
Since my Subsonic server is generally used only by me, the chat feature isn't really something I use. I also don'[t know of many apps that support it, even though the API is there, partly because many are designed for mobile and you shouldn't be texting in your car.
So really, I wonder if there's much use for adding chat support to a desktop or tablet app, and on the TV showing chats as they happen but not chatting back, since that would be very tedious without a keyboard. If such a feature existed, would you use it or just turn it off as being clutter?
