Issue Connecting to my Laptop

Hello. I will admit that I'm a novice here, so I'll apologize in advance for any dumb questions.

I downloaded Subsonic onto my desktop and was able to get everything working fine. I can access my music from any computer and my dSub on my phone. Life is great. My desktop is running Windows 10.

In talking to a friend of mine at work he has a laptop with Windows 7 set up to be his "server" and he just lets it run. So, I have an older laptop that I cleaned off, installed Windows 7 (64-bit) and was intending to use this as my "server." The only thing other than Windows 7 on the laptop is the Subsonic program. I went in and created a user to test, but when I tried to log onto that user (either from my desktop or dSub) I get connection errors.

Again, everything works from my Desktop, but doesn't from my laptop. Also, I am using an external hard drive with my laptop, but not my desktop. I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

I'm confident it's a network setting on my laptop that I need to change. But for the life of me I can't figure it out.

Any ideas?

Thanks (in advance).

By default the Windows firewall will probably be blocking incoming requests ?

Thank you for your reply.

I had thought that to be the case and had shut down the Windows Firewall. Still no success.

So your browser on the laptop can connect and configure, but browsers on the same network get what sort of error when connecting ?

So, on a whim, I installed Windows 10 on my laptop and now everything works fine on my laptop. I have no idea why, but it's working and that's all that matters. :)

Thanks for the replies!
