Interested in buying, but...

Postby Aporter » Sat Sep 25, 2010 7:51 pm

I'm interested in this app, but I'd like to find out a few things that are not detailed on the page. I've downloaded the demo, but all I can see is that the demo is basically pandora-because these are not my songs.

1)I'm looking for a way to stream music from my PC to my Droid X without requiring my computer to be left on. Does this service allow that through the 3G network?

2)Is there any way to demo this product with my own music before purchasing it?

3) Does this service require me to upload all of my songs to my personal server in order to work?

thanks

You have connected to the default 'demo' streaming server..a proof of proper installation.

1) No. Subsonic server needs to be running (on a NAS, computer, etc.) to serve music, but of course it does work over 3G. There are other services that do not require a server, but do require you to upload your tunes..prohibitive with large collections. I used Lala for this, before Apple killed it, but there are others.

2) Yes. You simply use the Install guide: http://www.subsonic.org/pages/documentation.jsp to point to your collection.

3) See guide. Your collection stays put.

I'm doing what you are wanting to do, and it works really well.

Set up Subsonic on your PC. In the settings you can even specify a domain like [YOURNAME].subsonic.org. This will become your server.

My 3G connection is always pretty good (I picked up a Droid X recently) and it works amazingly well. I can access my entire music collection from almost anywhere. I stream my tunes via Bluetooth in my car... no more need for iPods or CDs.

It's great!

The subsonic server application requires you leave some device with read access to your media library (NAS, your desktop, media server, etc..) turned on to work. Subsonic does not provide server space for your music, just the program (which you run on your own backend) to serve them out to your clients as well as the client program (on your phone, web browser, etc..) to listen to it.
