Android: Subsonic Download Service

I've been paying attention to how Subsonic runs on Android recently because my Droid 1 has been getting slower with the newest CyanogenMod.

I noticed that there is a Subsonic Download Service that runs whenever I start Subsonic and then sticks around and keeps restarting the Subsonic app if I use ATK to kill it.

If I kill this service using the Settings->Applications->Running Services, it goes away and doesn't start back up until I run Subsonic again.

What is the point of this service? Why does it keep restarting Subsonic? Killing it improves the performance of my phone (frees RAM I suppose) so I'm interested in why it is there and if I can somehow make it stop. Thanks.
