Subsonic Forum

A bit off topic, but is there anything out there that will serve up ebooks in a way similar to what subsonic offers? Just as subsonic serves up my music library, I want to have my ebook library on a server that would allow me to access all of my books from any where. Not interested in kindle type service.

What you're looking for is Calibre.

Unless I'm missing a feature of Calibre, its not exactly what I'm looking for. I've seen where you can set up Calibre on a headless server and you can view what books you have on your library. You can then download each book and read it on what ever device you are using at the time.

I was considering more like Subsonic in that you can read your ebooks from the same program that serves up each book and it keeps up with where you were reading in that book last. Just as subsonic lets you view your music library and listen to songs from within it. I can then go to another computer to open subsonic and my playlist from what ever I was last playing is right there already.

I'm sure this would be solved if I were to just use kindle, but I don't like the idea of relying on an outside company to store my media and serve it up to me as no company lasts for ever.

Using Subsonic (and not finding an equivalent for ebooks) actually inspired me to take on my first programming project. It's extremely rough and doesn't quite do all you're asking for at the moment, but if you'd like to take a look, here's the Google Code - https://code.google.com/p/indexlibrorum/
