Super basic description of Subsonic

Is this software where many people can log in, upload their music, build their own playlists, and streams, and then share the music, playlists and streams with many other people?

This isn't "file sharing" in the same sense as what is usually thought of. Subsonic allows you to access your music and video library both internally on a home network, or externally over an internet connection. The administrator has complete control over who has access to the library and can control the permissions granted to each user, anywhere from just browsing the contents, playing files, to full admin rights. It's very flexible and can be configured to each individual's needs.
