Subsonic remote control another instance

Hi,

I'd like to be able to have a light weight component playing music at home - not a complete computer.
I have installed Subsonic (fantastic project btw.) on my file server. I also have a WD TV Live box that is connected to my sound system and via wifi with the file server.
Is there any way/mod/hack to have Subsonic forward the data to the WD TV box so it can be played there? I have no problems with installing custom software on the box.
I'd like to do this because it is impractical for me to connect the file server (Asus eepc) to the sound system.

Many thanks,
Stefan

The WD TV box should be able to access the media files on your server directly. There is no need to go through Subsonic.

Yes this is possible but I don't want to switch on the tv every time I'd like to change a song. Besides, the WDTV player is quite crappy...

Interesting thought.
How would you change songs though? On the computer? So the WD would kind be like the juke box?
A subsonic app for WDTV would be nice, just to get a better interface and LAST.fm scrobbles, etc. If the app existed maybe something like this could be configured.

I am pretty sure nothing like this exists though.

How about using XBMC and the Subsonic plugin?

You can pick up an ATV2 with remote for $99, you'd just need to jailbreak it, install XBMC and then install the Subsonic plugin.

If that's too much work and you want something easier (but a bit more expensive) then you could try this OpenELEC HTPC solution that has XBMC pre-installed.

Alternatively it looks like there is good progress being made with a Subsonic plugin for the Boxee

BTW XBMC has great remote apps for Android and iOS devices that let you search through your collection on the device itself so you don't need to have the TV on to select your music.

Add stick of ram and a 2.5 hard drive and you're good to go.

Or try this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6856101096

Yup, that'll work, just be careful as some of these don't have gigabit lan. If that's what you need, be sure to read the specs carefully as some are just 10/100.
