Is Everything okay?

I haven't seen an update in awhile...we didn't lose Sindre did we?
Updates were coming out regularly and I haven't seen an update in months. Does anyone know what is going on?

I must say I second this. I haven't seen updates in quite a while, and in past times they were coming about once a month.

I actually went through the long process of uploading all of my music to Google music because I feel like this project might be adrift. I am still finding bugs, but I get the feeling Sindre is too busy to track everything down and get it fixed (understandably, since this is a side project).

I hope I am wrong, but I feel like Subsonic is at the point where it needs to become a full fledged business with a dedicated employee...

Source Code

Postby j3tblk » Wed Jun 01, 2011 1:33 pm

I'm thinking Amazon or Google scooped up Sindre. I've looked at both Amazon and Google Music and decided to stick with Subsonic. I can't be the only person that has drawn that conclusion and either one of these companies would be very wise to hire him and kill SS. If we have indeed lost Sindre then I think we should try to get the source code and switch this to a community effort. Thoughts?

well the source code as always been available its Open Source! So anyone could fork there own version of SS at anytime. I wouldn't be to concerned yet frankly I am enjoying the slower pace of updates, since I mod my server fairly heavily so each new update is kind of an ordeal for me to upgrade too :P

I hope SS never dies. there is really nothing like it on the market. The other music services are cool but none of them can be self hosted, and all of them cost money. At my multi GB sized library I ane't affording their services anytime soon.

Yes, duh. the code is there. If we don't see an update soon I may want to try creating a new branch. My instance is already heavily modified and I could share my changes with everyone. I'm not a java developer by trade so I will need help to keep things progressing. I just hit 1TB in my collection and moving to a hosted solution would really break the bank.

I actually just came back to these forums to try and find an answer to my pondering of "whats going on?". I installed it when the currently version just came out and was wondering when any new updates were coming. I'm not really after any major features, just a few bug fixes and tweaks.

Relax. Sindre was out of his home environment for two months and only returned home a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure he'll be back at it again before long. His previous run of updates and releases was pretty phenomenal. I think we all got a little spoiled.

I'm still alive :-) And I'm still 100% committed to keep Subsonic alive for a long time.

Yeah, it's been awhile since the last update since I've been busy with other things - but I'll have a new beta ready in not so long. The major new thing is a "sharing" feature, with which you can send someone a link (or post on twitter/facebook) to a song/album/video on your Subsonic server. He or she will be able to stream that material (but nothing else) without needing a user account.

Cheers,
Sindre

I'd hope we can do something about the rash of spammers that have been hitting the boards lately.

Sounds like another great feature :)

BTW: Anyone also has problems with LDAP integration on Windows? It sometimes bugs off .. I'm thinking of going back to standard normal accounts. A pity :(

Features

Postby Aethies » Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:22 am

Glad to hear that you are still alive Sindre. You have done something AMAZING with this subsonic. It is by far the best app out.

In light of all the new laws that are trying to be pushed into being here in the US, one thing that I think would be very beneficial is to be able to see who is currently logged into the server.

Mind you, I am not insinuating that anything illegal is being done, but the way this new proposal is being written is ANYTHING that is being streamed could land you in jail. This includes Youtube videos, TV shows, etc. etc.

I think being able to see who is currently logged into your server would be an incredible security feature especially for those of us that use your *.subsonic.org addy. Even failed login attempts in the logs would be helpful. Right now, I monitor connections to my network and back check them to the few friends that use my site for their own use.

Thanks for listening!
