PowerPc Mac - Subsonic running fine !

Postby maCmelt » Thu Jun 30, 2011 8:58 am

Hi - Thanks for Subsonic (will be donating later) and have got it running fine on old powerpc G5 imac running osx 10.5.8

I'm 'part geek' and am available to maybe assist anyone (still running an old mac) to get subsonic running. Geekish but no computer expert :o

It took a little effort to get subsonic running, which I wont write out in full atm. For anyone interested the basics were ...........

1 download standalone version of subsonic

2 update java on G5

3 modify subsonic install script to install to desktop (found it easy to pick desktop)

4 run install script and test with a few music files. Was running Ok after launching.

5 decided I wanted ffmepeg and lame for powerpc, so compiled each from source, needed xtools

6 copy ffmpeg and lame to right directories

7 test

Now running fine from android clients

cheers stephen

I know this is a bit old. Trying to do the same on an old G4. Could you please, should you see this request, expand a bit on the upgrading of Java and copying ffmpeg and lame to the proper directories? I seem to be locked into my version of Java via Apple.

It would depend on what OS you have installed on your Mac.

If you can get 10.5.x or higher, that would be optimal, but I think for 10.4 (Tiger) and lower, you are locked into an older version of Java, as you mentioned.
