Changing the location of my subsonic folder

Hi,
I'm new to the software and love it already. I'm having a bit of a problem now though. I have subsonic installed on windows xp. I have a large music collection saved on my M drive. My drive letter assignments are a little crazy on this machine. Anyways, when the program installs in creates a subsonic folder on my C drive. On this computer C is a really small reserved partition. Windows will not let me reassign a letter to the drive and I can't seem to find a good option in subsonic to change this when installing the program. Everything will be fine for a while, but over time that file will grow larger and fill up that C partition. I need a way to install subsonic entirely on my M drive, or J drive which has all of my other program files located on it. Any ideas? I'm sure I'm just missing something obvious here. Thanks

Ben

Not sure on how to change the location (or if it's possible), but my 'C:\subsonic' folder is less than 100MB although my music collection located on D: is 135GB. I believe the actual database file is less than 5MB. If you can spare 100MB - 125MB it's probably best to leave it on C:

To move the Subsonic folder off the C: drive:

  • Stop the Subsonic service
  • Copy the Subsonic folder from the C: drive to the M: drive
  • Using a text editor, open %PROGRAMFILES%\Subsonic\subsonic-service.exe.vmoptions
  • Add the following line to the bottom:
    Code: Select all
    -Dsubsonic.home=m:/subsonic
  • Save the file
  • Restart the Subsonic Service.

HTH,

Glenn

Thanks a lot! That worked great! I've got the program running free of my tiny C drive now. The only problem I'm having now is that my subsonic url isn't working but I'll get that going soon.

Is it possible to relocate the folder when using the Tomcat (.war) setup?

Yes. Add the same setting to your Java Global Variables. for Windows, that is located on the Java tab of the Apache Tomcat Properties, under "Java Options."

Hope this helps,

Glenn
