I had been looking around, bouncing ideas back and forth with this. I want move subsonic from my home server to the cloud. I looked at the 2 hosting plans that subsonic offers but I would go broke. I have 3 Terabytes of data "Movies/Music" I have been seeing web hosting yadee yadeee unlimited this and that for 3-6$ a month, is there any way to set up subsonic on one of these sites? Without getting a expensive deticated server or vps. My biggest issue is I dont want my home server on ALL the time, so once it goes to sleep it cannot be woken up remotely via internet, so ppl have to wait till I get home again, and I personally sometimes have a urge to watch a movie on my lunch but cant do anything about it myself, so a cloud service 24/7 would be nice.
THANKS

Just a suggestion a lot of High end routers now have WAKE on LAN (internet) capabilities or you could install DD-WRT software in your existing router http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index
This might be a cheaper option and would save uploading 3Tb of data

Im stuck using a at&t router which will not forward external port 9 to internal port 9, also the router does not play nice with "router behind router" Finally my router "as far as i can remember" will assign the second router a internal IP not allow a direct pass through of external IP. In addition web security benifits, I wont have to use my personal server, if someone hacks my public hosting then so be it, no harm no foul, also it could be used as a backup, dont have to wear out my server etc. So if it could be done would be great, or even getting a cheep vps and pointing it to a web hosting service just to get the data, I mean 6$ a month for unlimited usage, unlimited data/storage, 100Mbits speed and 24/7 up time. I'd be willing to even pay someone some money to set this up for me cheep.

Make sure you read the fine print on that $6.00 deal. I'm using Dreamhost. Don't get me wrong they have been outstanding but they also advertise unlimited everything and for about two years I had close to 400 GB of music up there. I recently got an email and followed up with a phone call. Long and short is, according to their terms, that unlimited does not include any sharing of files in any way. I went back and fourth for a while on how is it different that having a photo site (I was using a script called Andromeda from turnstyle for music that was a lot like any photo gallery). They would not budge and I had to delete it all. I was able to do it for two years but that's why I recently turned to, and I'm now using, Subsonic.

Im ok with moving the data after a year or when they decide its to much for them. Just wanted to know if it can be done, Even the Idea of having a VPN with 50mb of storage as long as it can pull data off of hosted site and stream. Best solution would be to stream directly from the hosted site, but 95% of them do not support java code.
