Hello I am having a problem. I just got a new computer and I am running Windows 7 after about 10 minutes the computer goes to sleep and when I move the mouse it wakes up and then I notice my USB wireless Network/Internet connection re-connects how do I stop this? The reason I ask is because after my computer goes to sleep I cant access the server from my phone until the computer wakes up again. I went into the settings for the Wireless N USB Adapter and set it to not power off and also went into Device Manager and under Network Adapters I selected the Wireless N USB Adapter and on the tab for power management I unchecked the box for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and this still doesn't work. The computer still goes to sleep and shuts off the connection. Any body know what to do?

I don't know about Win 7 but in Vista you set when when the pc goes to sleep in control panel - power options

Ya I looked at that but I am not sure what to change?

What appears probably changes depending on whether it's a desktop or laptop but on Vista there is a sub-menu
"change when the computer sleeps"
See if you can see anything relating to change power plan settings.

Its a desktop computer. I have looked at the power settings but I am not sure what exactly to change. I think I have changed the settings correctly for the USB wireless network adapter because after about 10 minutes the computer screen turns off and the Subsonic server still responds but later something else must power off, maybe the hard drive, not sure and the server stops responding. Then it starts to respond once I wake up the computer by moving the mouse. So maybe I need to set something so that the USB or network will allow the computer hard drive or what ever it is to wake up. I am just not sure what it is I need to change the setting of.

I believe I am having this same issue on windows 7. I created my own power plan.
I changed "turn off hard disk" to never and I disabled sleep mode. I thought I had fixed it because it was working for most of the day yesterday. Then it stopped later on. I don't get it. I had to restart the server to get it working again.

... some branded PCs ie HP, Dell, Lenovo etc, have their own power control software installed on the PC which usually overrides control by the OS.

I built this one myself. All It has on it so far is Windows 7 & Outlook 2003 I still want the power saving options I just need to turn on what ever is stopping Subsonic from responding. Maybe it is the hard drive...

That's why its sleeping - its bored

I guess the only way to correct this is to stop windows from going to sleep all together. I cant seem to figure it out. I have changed a few settings and nothing seems to work...

This is correct, I've tried everything and the only solution that works is to stop it from going to sleep. I've heard of some software that might help with this, but I am reluctant to try it...

your internet connection will not prevent windows from sleeping, you said Windows7 and Server, is this a make shift server? There are no settings that will keep internet alive while computer sleeps, because it powers down hard drives etc. You can not wake computer from a phone, unless you have a special router that can forward external port 9 to internal port 9 and send a magic packet. (with out special software) like go to my pc. Once windows 7 is a sleep any internet activity will not wake it up, and no way to change that within windows. Software wise there are some options, get go to my pc or something like that and that will wake up your computer then you can go back to subsonic and stream. I believe as long as you have the software open your computer will not shut down. Best advice I can give you. I also been looking for a way to wake up my server via internet.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings

Click on "Change advanced power settings"

Go to the bottom and expand Multimedia settings.

Set "When sharing media" to "Prevent idiling to sleep"

"Apply"

"OK"

You can also set power settings on the NIC to allow it to wake the server and search for how to Wake on Lan from the internet to wake a sever using UDP 9.

Two things you need to check/disable...

Under power options, like others have stated, you need to disable the hard drive from going to sleep, as well as the computer itself.

Then under the NIC properties, you need to disable the computer from disabling that to "save power"...
