Is it just me, or is the new Media Folder Scan option worse?

Postby an_otter » Thu Jun 28, 2012 3:39 pm

Prior to 4.7.beta2 I would be able to do a quick folder scan under Search, but 'Scan media folders now' under Media folders takes much longer, and if I hit Refresh in the left-nav after what I assume was long enough for it to scan my stuff, nothing is added, and I need to re-scan. :/

Tell me there's a way to still perform the old folder scan.

There is not, without dropping back to 4.6. That is the point of a beta... to expose issues before general release.

No need for the ellipsis, I was just inquiring. I'm curious why the change, though. Seemed like it was working perfectly fine prior.

There are things I like about the new way Subsonic handles files and there are bad things.

Subsonic 4.6 was not handling the large folders I was trying to let it handle.
When I browsed around, responsiveness was sluggish, and the Android client couldn't browse the big folders.

The good:
Subsonic 4.7b2 is blazing fast, massive increase in responsiveness
ID3 browsing is nice
Android client is extremely happy again, no timeout errors

The bad:
-Empty folders
-Insanely long media scanning times (more than 7 hours for me)
Not all files have ID3, and I THINK it displays the files anyhow, but I am not sure.
- Often I get empty folders
I usually let artwork files and booklet scans, like PDFs, get browsed by Subsonic as well - This functionality breaks when Subsonic only shows files with some meta-data in it.
