djsubsonic - appreciate the tutorial. Followed the steps provided but I'm unable to successfully add a network share to subsonic.

My setup:
-Running Subsonic service on Windows 64-bit Desktop
-I have a MEDIASHARE MINI (by Verbatim) that is attached to my network. This is where I have all of my media and it is basically a mini NAS for external USB devices. I currently have a 1TB Cavalry USB HD attached to it and have an active network share mapped to the windows machine: \\MEDIASHARE_MINI\External Storage\CAVALRY 1TB\

When I attempt to add the share to subsonic, it is not successful (I tried the UNC path above and also 'X:\CAVALRY 1TB\Music' since I have the MEDIASHARE mapped to drive letter 'X' as well). I added the windows log on account to the service and restarted it as you indicated. However, I must note that the MEDIASHARE utilizes different credentials to log in, could this be the problem? How can i get around this?

What I did...

Here is what I did...
Running:
Windows 7 Enterprise x86
Subsonic 4.5 Beta 1
FreeNAS 0.72

Win7 and Subsonic are on my Laptop
FreeNAS, obviously on another machine

Code: Select all
1. Created new user in Win7 exclusively for network (networksubsonic)
2. Went to Services -> Subsonic -> Right Click on Subsonic and go to Properties -> Log On Tab -> Choose "This Account" -> Entered in Newly created username (networksubsonic) and entered in Password twice -> Apply -> Hit OK on Dialog boxes -> Hit OK in Properties Box -> Restarted Subsonic Service
3. Went to FreeNAS GUI and went to Access -> Users
4. Hit + Sign
5. Created new user (networksubsonic) with same credentials as I made on Win7 and used the following options
- Shell: nologin
- Primary Group: guest
- Leave everything else be
6. Hit Save
7. Hit Apply Changes
8. Went back into Subsonic to go to Settings -> Music Folders
9. Added a New Folder with the following information
- Name: Test (can be whatever you want, this is what I did to test it)
- Folder: \\prinny-baal\storage\Music (whatever your UNC path is)
10. Hit Save
11. Went to Search ->Update search index now
12. Went to About and constantly hit the Refresh Link

Upon doing so, I saw it was taking a bit longer to update my search index, when I did, I saw an increase in the file listing once all said and done.

Now, I did see that locating where the music was at was just a little slow, but not too bad, it was tolerable. Selecting a song took it about 5 seconds to start to buffer and then start to play through Firefox 5 on Windows 7.

I will try to make a video of sorts to explain what I did if it needs to be done.

Ì'm Running Subsonic on ubuntu now with the same network shares that it would get from a vritual server 2003.
And a physical Windows 7 Ultimate machine. Over gigabit network. it takes les than a second to load a song.

Even when i'm not home it takes about 1 second to load the first part of a song, so it's realy fast on ubuntu.

Same here, re: the MAC - I'm using Time Capsule on my Wifi LAN as a server with no computer running at all, worked fine for 2 days then lost the media folders
