Subsonic and Google Drive

Postby philmfao » Fri Feb 07, 2014 6:56 pm

Hi all,

Right now I have subsonic fetch my songs on Google Drive through my home pc (c:/users/.../Google Drive/music/...)

However this requires my home PC to be ON at all times, which I don't particular enjoy. I always have in on SLEEP during the day (security and privacy reasons). So as Subsonic was working great on my android at home (while my computer was on), Subsonic does not work from work (as my computer has gone to sleep. I have asked my roomate to wake up and have it at the logon screen, and still can't connect.)

What I would REALLY like is to figure a way to have subsonic fetch my music on Google Drive on the CLOUD, and not on my PC...

Is there a way ?

Well your computer has to be on regardless for Subsonic to work. That's not even a matter of google drive or local

Doesn't Google Music app allow you to play what you have stored in your cloud account?

Why would you want to use your phone to connect to Subsonic to connect to what's on Google drive? Just use the Google music app and let your PC sleep.

Regarding a sleeping PC - you can always use a wake on lan app or website to send a packet to wake up a sleeping Subsonic server. I do it all the time without needing to log onto the machine to connect.

I live in Canada; Google Music isn't available here... hence all this work to workaround it...

I have now been trying to setup my External HD on the router to host my mp3 files now... In the process, and still not working.. I can't figure out how to access the HD from the subsonic settings..... In a way that no computer is needed (therefore, network mode; and not shared drive mode)

Ok well I just wasted an entire week trying to have this setup. There is no way Subsonic can be linked to my music folder. NOT through the network, and NOT locally either... I am losing patience....

THEREFORE

I would like to go back to my initial setup with Google Drive, and have subsonic wake my PC when needed. Could you please explain how this be done ?

(or help me figure out how to have subonic link to my HD plugged in the router from PC, and have my work Mac connect to it as well)

Subsonic resides on a PC platform or server. There isn't a pathway to call Subsonic to wake up the platform. You have to wake the platform to get to Subsonic.

If you want to use a network share with Subsonic on a windows platform then you have to use UNC shares - not mapped drives,

All explained in the Tutorial section.

I don't use Mac or Linux so I have no advice there, but all your issues have been discussed many times previously.

It sounds like not just your monitor went to sleep but your computer (hard drive) to.

Okay, there are a couple of ways to do this:

1- Go into settings on your computer
Orb > type in > Power Settings > Choose > Change Power-Save Settings. > Choose either: Balanced, High Performance, > Change Settings > Put the computer to sleep: > Never
Now your display can sleep and set to awake on Login screen but your computer will always be awake.

2- The other way is to upgrade to a router that has a USB Share Port. Netgear N900 http://goo.gl/YOPe2X as well as the D-Link 11AC 1750 Dual Band Wireless Router http://goo.gl/lY6fd
