Configuring External Players

I am having issues with my external players (songbee, win amp, media monkey) picking up music from subsonic. Will it only send playlists to the media player? And if so, should I create a playlist that has all the music included so I have that?

Sorry if this question has been asked before, I didn't really see it in the search.
