How do I enable DSD file support?

Postby 8BitKid » Sat Dec 24, 2016 11:11 pm

I have songs I've purchased that are DSD files (.dsf) and have the album artwork as a PDF inside the directory. How can I go about:
    1. Ensuring that Subsonic identifies the files
    2. That the files are transcoded when the client cannot play the file natively
    3. That the file is played natively when the client can support it (for example, a computer with a USB DAC)
    4. That the album artwork is correctly discovered

I don't think Subsonic handles your files the way you want it.
Subsonic converts all audio files into a "streamable" format like mp3. It doesn't check wether the client can play any format, it just presents the mediafiles as a stream.
If the program to play your dsf-files can handle DLNA than you might enable Subsonic's DNLA service and let the client find the files this way.
Subsonic can't handle PDF-files. It just does imagefiles for Covertart. JPG, PNG, GIF. etc.
You might have a look at http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f11-software/dsf-flac-help-20429/ whether it's an option to convert your files to Flac.
That format Subsonic can handle without any difficulty.

Thanks so much for your response. I have tried MPD-based servers and apps like Volumio, moOde, etc., but don't know a good remote, web-based client for playback.

Subsonic is intended to make your audio and video files available to you where ever you go, but I doubt if you'll ever get it to work streaming DSD-files without transcoding.
