I'll have to bump this topic!
This simply is not about semantics as GJ51 said. This is about claiming that this software is donationware, when it actually isn't.
Donationware is a totally different concept from the
Freemium Business Model many wepapps use nowadays!
I have no problem whatsover in paying for services that I like - and I do so quite often.
And I do happily support free software by donating some amount here and there.
This is the first software I have come across though, that claims to be donation-ware but cripples its features (API calls), if I do not donate!
On the donation-site it also says that "... [I] can select any amount [I] like:..", but then only gives me the option to pay a minimum amount of 10€.
I would have paid even 20€, if he wouldn't sell premium features under false pretenses. This simply is trialware, and it does not make a difference how great the support or the piece of software is.
Anyways, I think Sindre should either stop claiming his software is donationware, or sell it as Trialware and explicitly state so.
Otherwise people simply get lured into installing the software, and setting everything up, until they notice that it does not work as advertised after the trial runs out. Not cool and a great way of pissing off people who would otherwise be willing to pay/support the project!
I will look elsewhere and refuse to pay any amount until this is fixed. And you should so too!
Just my two cents...
[Edit] I have pm'ed Sindre, because I really would like to hear what he has to say to this.
