Ubuntu Server optimizations?

Hi,

New to Subsonic after trying countless of other solutions and being constantly disappointed by them
Subsonic completely fits my needs and I'm definitely going to be buying it.

I've got a dual core 3Ghz processor with 1.7GB RAM running Ubuntu Server (Oneric)
The server is also running as an FTP server and DNSMasq is also installed.

I've upped the amount of RAM in /etc/default/subsonic to 768Mb and added VOB support. Apart from that, Subsonic is a clean installation.

The question is, what other optimisations can people recommend?
Also, what can I do to keep it's database in top condition. If it were MySQL I'd use the optimize table command, but as far as I can see it uses some other DB that I'm not familiar with.

[EDIT]Just so you know what size of library I've currently got:
5,013 artists
1,440 albums
30,961 songs
300.84 GB (~ 4,673 hours)
[/EDIT]

Many thanks in advance!
Iain

You won't have to worry about optimizing your setup any further. You could probably service 100 people streaming music from your server at the same time.

Actually I disagree,

I support similar apps on the job, and if you only have 768 ram and are using it for anything else you are going to have issues. Java is a memory whore...remember that, I would recommend no less than 2gb of RAM depending on your system. If you need help tweaking it PM me I am happy to help.

Have upped the RAM to 4gb now (well, 3.75 usable as it's a 32 bit system) and it's obviously running a lot smoother.

Now I just have to sort out the issue with the fans kicking in, but that's another story altogether!
