Songs are shortened

All of my songs have been shortened to random lengths. Some for less than a minute. If I browse to the folder and play directly there through MP3 program, the songs are fine but through SS (and even cached SS apps) they are all short. Any suggestion?

If they are VBR I suggest you check the header info - it sounds as if they are corrupt.
That will effect SS more then a non-streaming player which will load the whole file into memory and may ignore faulty headers.

Thank you for your response. I will try not to be one of those you describe in your footer:

I found a program that does a batch scan and finds this for my songs: (the program is mp3validator)

"It seems that file is truncated or there is garbage at the end of the file"

I run a 'fix' and it says, "File was rebuilt" but no change. Is there more I should do or is this a whole new ripping job of my 5,000+ songs?

MP3 validator is good but I have found that sometimes it will not repair vbr headers correctly.
Try using vbrfix which I have used to some success on problem files. (Again assuming that they are VBR and not CBR)

Thanks again. Just used that and they all came back, "Skipping as the file is not vbr". My friend said they were ripped at too low a bit rate. Sometimes technology aint so grand. At least I have found an awesome ripper (Exact Audio Copy) and have verified that the ripping works with SS. Now, it's a summer of ripping... But at least I'm not stealing.

Thanks so much for your help and input. Tech forums are the greatest!
