I'd like to select my Subsonic server as my music source for my Google homes.

I have over 100,000 titles on my server and paying $9.99 or such per month to Spotify or Google Play etc., is ridiculous.

How or what can be done to get this ability going ??

All my friends and family are asking if they can use my server on their Google homes.

Creating an app for Google Home is much like the discussions already made for Amazon's Alexa systems (incl Echo). The issue is that the server requires OAuth2 support, which is not the authentication mechanism for Subsonic. So to support it, someone will need to create a layer to authenticate and within that, cache your actual subsonic username/password/server info. And you would have to trust that someone that they won't use your credentials willy-nilly (though really you have to do that with any app, but there we are).

Making that layer has been something in my mind, but never a high priority...but once done, both Google Home and Amazon Alexa skills should be somewhat simple to write.

I assume the app you refer to, is for us to configure Google's access to the Subsonic server.

I don't own an amazon echo, nor will I, so I have read nothing on this subject. I have come direct to the Subsonic source to solve this.

I have no idea how others allow usage of their Subsonic servers, but I know all my users and I trust my friends and family..
Besides, I assume access could be directed, perhaps to a particular user/password (or similar), which if a problem ever arose those credentials could be changed.


So if you see this as so easy, and you've already been giving the whole thing some thought, when can we expect this to become reality ?
