Subsonic Mobile App

Postby sdguy2150 » Fri Apr 12, 2019 11:14 pm

Hello,

I was wondering if there is away in the Android Subsonic Mobile App to have it stream, or play flac while you are on wifi, and if you are on mobile that it transcodes it to mp3?

I see under setting that you can set the max bitrate to stream on wifi, but it looks like it is tied to mp3 as I have to unlimited, and it does no good.

Right now I created a user account for flac, and one for mp3, so if I login to the mobile app with flac it will just stream flac, but if I login as mp3 it will transcode to mp3.

For the android app, the bandwidth settings are for the app, not for the account. There's no way to have it automagically decide which to use based on environmental conditions other than that max bandwidth setting.

Given that the Android app uses the streaming url endpoint instead of the download, i'm not convinced that it would actually even serve up the flac content uncompressed in the first place - that even "unlimited" it would still transcode to 320 mp3. Maybe that's how it works I don't know, as my setup is all mp3.

9 years of ringing tinnitus and there's no point for me in thinking flacs are any better than 256/320 mp3s on what sound hardware I have - I only bother get dvd-audios and/or SACDs because of the 5.1 support.
