iSub won't load all artists

Postby bluetooth » Sun Sep 19, 2010 8:43 pm

Using an iPod touch with the latest version of iSub. I am literally a few feet from the router.
For some reason, I cannot load all artists. I have about 1,360 loaded, but I know I have over 4,500 artists in the Subsonic library.

Reloading the artist list flashes the 'Reloading' box flashes briefly. Is there some way to get the rest of the artists loaded?
Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you're correct about this? I believe Subsonic and iSub use different figures to calculate the number of artists. I think iSub just counts the folders and Subsonic uses ID3 tags. Do you know for sure that information is really missing?

I am one of those weird guys where every single album has artwork, every track has been equalized, and every track has an ID3 tag.

If you're suggesting only 1360 artists have ID info, that's just not possible.

If I have it wrong, give it another shot.

That's not exactly what I'm suggesting... As an example of a possible source of this discrepancy, do you have any "Various Artist" compilations? Maybe 20 or 30 VA albums in a folder called "Various Artists" in your Subsonic root or something?

A case like that might result in extremely different numbers.

As I've mentioned in previous posts, I'm really doing this for a friend. I gave her back the iPod, but I'm going to be looking at it tomorrow.

Yes, I have various artist folders. Are you suggesting iSub reports 'Billboard best 1980' as a single artist, but Subsonic counts each individual artist?

That might account for the discrepancy, best thing would be spot check a few artists and see if anything is missing.

On a different note, does iSub have enough smarts so it knows it doesn't need to reload the artists?

Yes. That is essentially what I am suggesting. If you don't mind, try taking a count of the number of folders in your Subsonic music directory. I'd bet that will precisely match the number of artists iSub reports. Subsonic on the other hand says "okay here's 100 more artists" for your top 100 folder, because each song might have a different artist in the ID3 tag, and you may not have any other song by that artist. Eventually that adds up.

If it turns out you still have an issue, please don't hesitate to let us know and I will do my best to assist you.

I believe iSub only reloads the Artists folder when you manually reload it. It then caches that index until the next time you reload.
