issue with audio streaming / bandwith

Postby svennid » Tue Jan 11, 2011 11:58 am

hi,

i use subsonic for a while ... a couple of weeks ago i noticed that the audio / mp3 streaming of my server is very variable.

sometimes he loads the first 10 seconds of a song and then he quits loading the entire song. then i have to reload the song or reload the entire playlist or whatever.

sometimes he loads the song very slow so that the playback is nearly at the same speed he loads the song ... then the playback stops or hangs for a while.

and sometimes he loads the song at fullspeed approx. 2MBit/s ... like it should be!

my listening "endpoint" has a 100MBit/s Up/Downlink and the server (@home) can reach 2MBit/s max ... i testet it with a ftp upload (250kbit/s) but as i finished the ftp session subsonic loads only with 40-170kb/s ...

i did not changed any network settings on my airport extreme or on the server (mac mini). i use the latest subsonic version 4.3

whats wrong?

best regards from germany

Your problem appears to be your upload speed from the server. Even if your music is only 128kbps mp3, if you server upload speed is dropping to a low of 40, it may not be able to send the data fast enough to keep up with playback.
