video upload bottleneck

Postby maarten » Sun Jan 16, 2011 8:14 pm

First of all let me congratulate Sindre (and his team) with the new video feature!
It is working like a charm (video sync-wise there could be made some enhancements, but on the whole it's great!).

My question is: In a near future version could there be a separate login to view video files?
Right now you can (as a logged-in user) see (or hear) sound, as well as video files.

The reason I'm asking this is; my upstream will only allow so many users at one time (for flv video @ 700kbps it's just one).
Will I be able to filter these users?

Example for a future release: All my current users get full audio access, but only I choose who will get video access...

I would really like to know your vision on the thought.

sincerely, Maarten

You can sort of accomplish this already. By disabling the transcoding filters that apply to video for all 'players' except for the one you want, those players will be unable to stream video unless it is already an FLV.

If your library contains no FLVs, then this will accomplish what you want.
