Accessing the server from the internet -problems

Postby grx123 » Mon Mar 14, 2011 3:40 pm

I am new to subsonic I am trying to stream my local collection to my android phone. I am running subsonic on port 8080. My network setup is like this
[modem in transparent bridge]---->[dd-wrt router]-->[PC w/ static IP running subsonic onport 8080]

I was able to setup the server and able to connect to it directly on my home network. But at work the port 8080 is blocked(cant use port 80 as it is being used by something else). I can access my subsonic home server using the ip address :8080 SO I am assuming that the setup is ok

But on start up I see the following error from subsonic dns servers The web address xxx123" is already in use. Please select another.

when i select save I get timeout exception
Status: xxx123.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException)

Any solutions

Have you tries a different name? The msg. implies that someone else already has the name you're using.

Thanks for the quick reply GJ51. Just found out about the server name change trick and worked like a charm in my home network. But just a FYI to other users the subsonic .org service is not a proxy service but a redirection service. SO if your work/ISP/provider blocks a particular port you would not be able to use it.
Basic rule if you can connect to a particular port from your location you are golden.
