Actually that will be in 2.3 which isn't quite ready for public release - I want to add a couple more things. Maybe you piqued some interest though :)

This is excellent, I'm not a big widget user but the thought of a Subsonic one popped into my head, and after a brief search here we are. Thanks!

Btw, will it be (or is it already) possible to download tracks to the computer trough the gadget?

edit: Curiosity got the best of me. =) The artist/album function in 2.2 works like a charm and looks really nice! A big improvement over 2.1! Thanks again and again!

Good to hear erik! I had considered adding the ability to download tracks in the gadget when I first started working on it but wasn't sure if anyone would use it. If you think it would be useful, I will add it to the feature request list.
I know I have a few friends who stream from my account who also from time to time download albums they are particularly fond of to keep on their mp3-players or what have you. I think they would like to be able to do as much as possible using only one tool, and this is moving fast to be the one-stop-shop for subsonic. I don't think I'll use the browser option again apart from when I'm only borrowing a computer.

edit: I just noticed this while checking a few things on the SubAir-app:

* bug fix: domain forwarding/redirect now works (i.e. somename.subsonic.org)
Could it be that they encountered the same problem with the subsonic addresses redirecting and worked out a way to fix it?

edit2: I was over at a friends today, and he set up a subsonic server. Would it be possible to get the sidebar gadget to remember the settings from several servers, so that I could easily switch between his server and mine without having to enter all the information more than once? Ideally, I think one should be able to add as many servers with the correct settings as one wanted, and then just choose between servers from a drop down menu or something. Could this be done?

edit3: I keep thinking of things I wish for this gadget. Would it be possible to have it automatically update to the latest release? Or at least update trough the gadget itself?

Hey erik,
Keep the ideas coming!

1. Download - I have added this to the feature requests and will contact you when I start looking at it.

2. Subsonic.org redirect - I have some thoughts on this but want to talk to Sindre first so we will have to stick with using the IP for awhile.

3. Multiple Servers - this is a good idea and I already have some thoughts on it.

4. Update - I like the idea of it checking for updates and providing a link to download the newest one. Once that gets implemented, I will consider the option of allowing it to auto-update (with the option to allow or disallow this)

Also, it is worth mentioning that settings do not persist after clicking the X button for the gadget. This is a Windows Sidebar thing and applies to all gadgets. So in short, every time a gadget is closed and re-added to the sidebar (like when updated) all settings will need to be reentered.

Edit: after thinking about this, I have added the possibility of a Backup/Restore feature to the To Do list

I'll keep the ideas coming as long as you keep responding so nicely! =) Thanks for considering so many of them!

If multiple servers works, it would be really neat. This could effectively multiple my collection ten times (or a thousand times...) without having to sacrifice disk space, and would be a great way to get to know new music. Ideally, I guess it should be possible to browse several libraries at once, but I guess duplicates and such would be a pain. Of course, if you could work out a way to eliminate this, it would be superb. Unless this is possible, I guess having to manually switch to a different server would be the best option.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you regarding the download option, this, especially in combination with the possibility of subscribing to different servers would be brilliant.

The redirect works for now, but of course, I'm looking forward to seeing this fixed.

Thanks again for what's possibly the must useful app I've downloaded in quite a while. =)

Ok, you asked me to keep the suggestions coming, so here you are:

I couldn't find any easy way to add select tracks from an album, or save a playlist. I thought that if you get the same kind of menu for each album containing the tracks as you get from an artist showing the albums, you could choose either to mark an entire album or only some tracks and adding them to the current playlist in the same way as you now add albums.

Furthermore, if you were shown your current playlist before you press play, you could move tracks around, making custom playlists. If you then also could opt to save your current playlist, this would remove the need to use subsonic trough the browser to create playlists.

If you feel the gadget is getting too many features, feel free to ignore anything I say, of course. =)

Hey erik,

The multiple server option is really growing on me so (unless any issues arise with the current release) it will be the next thing I work on.
At this point in time, let's stick with manually switching and leave showing multiple libraries at once as a possible future feature :)

I actually added the track-selection feature to the To-Do list after the album-selection feature was added but I am glad to hear it would be used.

Saving playlists is a great idea and has been added to the feature requests. I have also added the playlist-editing feature but it may be a ways down the road before I get to work on that one.

Never hurts to have more features...now I just need more time lol
