I should also add that I have tried reinstalling Subsonic on my phone and this hasn't resolved the issue for me either. I have also tried forcing the Subsonic app to close and then restarting and re-entering my server details again and this also doesn't work. I'm not sure what else to try. I will try some local music on the server and see if this makes a difference.

Hate to ask a stupid and therefore obvious question, but have you paid for your subsonic subscription? The phone app only works for those who paid the minimum fee.

hello jesaep

Many thanks for your reply -much appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. I paid for the licence on my server, which I got via email and had to enter into the Subsonic UI. Is that what you're referring to? I paid 20 Euros I think. Can't help but feel I robbed Sindre really since it's a great app.... Anyway... Are you perhaps saying I need to licence the Android app as well? If so I haven't done that - I think I thought that provided I had licenced my copy of Subsonic the Android client would detect this. Could you perhaps clarify the situation for me as to what the requirement is: have I done what is necessary or do I need to licence the Android app as well?

Regards

Yes- I believe you paid the right amount- 20 Euros. At one time, there was a minimum to get Smartphone support and I thought it was 20- at least that's what I paid. I haven't had any issues since I paid and registered. There was not a separate registration for the Android app that I remember. Are you able to connect properly to your site or even the demo site? Are you getting results when connected to the demo site at least?

If you phone works properly on my site listed below, or the demo site, then the problem has to be in your server configuration. If you've licensed the server there is no other requirement to get the Android app working. If you'd like me to test your site on my phone, just PM guest credentials to me and a link to the site.

Your problem is most likely related to the file structure on your NAS. Have you set up a local test directory on the host server yet?

Let's isolate your problem and see if we can get it fixed.

@jesaep: When I test my connection using the 'Test connection' feature in teh Android app, it connect successfully. I am also getting content back when connecting to the demo site.

@GJ51 - Hello again :o) - My phone works on your site and the demo site. The server is definitely licenced. I've not yet set up a quick local content store on my server - that's my next step. I was tinkering last night but didn't get around to doing this bit. I tried what I suggested in the other forum post you were helping me on i.e. putting the 'Music' folder within a 'Subsonic' folder on the NAS in case Linux was not seeing the 'Music' part. This made matters worse as everything in the interface was listed under 'M' for 'Music' and then I had to drill down into my content from their. It made not the slightest difference to the Android app - I still got 'No music found'. I therefore reverted it back to how it was on the NAS since it at least displayed things logically in the interface.

** I'm leaving work now as I have 5 hours on you guys, so I won't reply for at least 2 hours, but thank you in advance of anything you post back. Have a nice afternoon. **

Let us know how it goes with testing with the local library setup, then repost the details of you NAS storage for others to see here. I suspect ther may be some file structure incompatibilities that may have to do with the NAS. Post as much information as you have about the NAS.

It does seem strange that you can see the files from a desktop browser, but you can't see them on the phone. That's why I suggested having another phone test your site to be sure it's not something odd with just your phone.

OK, so I locally copied a single MP3 into a folder on my Ubuntu Server, which is running Subsonic. I added the folder location in through the Subsonic front end and saved the changes. The new MP3 showed up right away in the web front end. Nothing showed up in the Android app. I even tried installing Subsonic on my wife's Moto Defy which runs a different version of Android and the same result. From her phone can see the demo server content. This rules out Gingerbread being the culprit. It also pretty much rules out my NAS since I can't even see local content on my Android phone. For thoroughness though here is the details of my Western Digital NAS:

Western Digitial My Book World Edition.
Firmware: 02.00.19
Shared folder: Music

The only person authorised to access and administer this share is me. I have ensure that I have the correct credentials in my /etc/fstab file (proven correct since it actually does mount properly at my server's boot time).

I'm stumped now as to what the issue can be. The only thing I can point to now is it being the Ubuntu server software (latest server = Natty 11.04) but I really think this would be grasping at straws....I'd be amazed if that turned out to be the case.

Android app is now working :o) Not sure what happened to fix it. Last night music local to the server also didn't show up in the Android client so I abondoned it for the evening. This morning, I modified the server details in the Android client to point to the internal IP of the server to see if it would pick anything up if it determined I wanted the inside of my own network. This did not work (but that did not surprise me). I then put the server name back to what it originally was in the Android client. I tested the connection and it was fine (as before). I was then able to see my music content. The only other thing I did was to force a stop of the Android client but I'd done this several times previously and it still didn't work. I'm not expecting this to last since if it can suddenly start working courtesy of the computer pixies then it can surely stop just as easily? For now I'm happy :o) Many thanks to GJ51 and jesaep for their help (esp GJ51 as he tested my server for me with his own mobile, which he didn't have to do). Thanks guys.
