Android App Video Stream Suggestion

Postby vividboarder » Wed Jan 05, 2011 9:19 am

I noticed that the Android app is currently streaming video via the web browser.

I'd like to suggest looking into taking advantage of some of the activities available from other apps.

I recently downloaded Vplayer beta and noticed it has an activity that might work to pass a URL to stream the video from.

There are a couple advantages to this. One, the player has a good UI for playback. Two, it plays many formats and may make transcoding the video unnecessary.

+1 for this!
Maybe there's an option to use 3rd party apps (like VPlayer or other media players) to play the videos, instead of flash player in browser?

Nevertheless:
Sindre - REALLY good work! This app became meanwhile my main music player for my android! Never sync again - great!!
Thanks for this.

Best regards,
Klaas.

VPlayer is a paid app with a trial, VLC Player is currently being developed for Android however, probably a more suitable choice.

When I click on a movie-file in subsonic on android I'm asked to select on of my browsers to play it. Since some of my video players can play network streams, I think this issue could be solved if it was possible to change the programs you can chose from in the "Complete actions using"-dialog box. Not sure if this is something that can be changed in the subsonic client though, but rather in the android system perhaps?

This would be a great feature. Lots of android phones out there are stuck on an older version that doesn't support flash, or just aren't beefy enough to run it.

I agree - it would be really good if I could use an android video player instead of working through the browser. There are many free ones that could handle this - not just vlc (which is a usability nightmare)

My browser is so slow. This would be a wonderful feature.

+1,000,000 :D

The browser is so twitchy with the video (for instance I'm not able to jump backwards or forwards). Being able to use with VPlayer or MOB Player or any of countless others (maybe VLC someday) would be just what I have been looking for. I make a lot of MKVs, and this is the first thing that's been able to transcode them on the fly and play them.

Also would be nice to be able to specify the default speed because I know my WiFi can handle 2000 and I shouldn't have to select it every time.

Great app, love that it has video support at all, so I'll live with what I've got.

Using the web browser is clunky.

ARMv6 doesn't support Flash, or the other way around, so I would be delighted to see non-browser playback as well.

After donating, I hoped to be able to play video well on Android but that is really not the case. The browser provides very poor performance and numerous issues related to Flash UI interactivity. Please provide the optional ability to pass the video URL to a video activity instead. The built-in app might not handle the format but a variety of others will.

(Still a fantastic app for music, thanks)
