This is definitely something I would like to see.... just about the only thing that makes subsonic not 100% perfect!!

I registered simply to show my absolute support for this feature, I was actually kind of shocked when I realized this wasn't part of the system since it seems like such an obvious and basic thing.

I'd like to use this for my own music (I'm a musician) and provide access to members to browse and download my work however I also want to have private folders for my own use.

So far I love the software, though I primarily use it for video ( and it does great ) .. my only gripes are it's inclination to refer to video as albums and the use of frames.. that and the access control of course.

I'd even be happy with access control handled via a basic text file that allowed you to just put flags in .. sort of like this

Code: Select all
username: upload,download,view
username2: view
username3: view

I'm a donator, I'm also a programmer but Java isn't my forte or I'd be looking to hack this in myself.

After getting my server working, this is one of the first things I looked for but was astounded that it wasn't there! Please add it, otherwise I'm loving Subsonic so far!

I'd like to request this as well.

I've made a donation in the hope it will help bump this feature up the list ;-)

+++++

I'll make another donation if this gets done in conjunction with being able to create user groups that have the same rights.

Silly question but do the authors of the software actually read this? :) Icould be mistaken but i've not seen a single comment regarding this feature from anyone that it is being considered..

Not being rude, just curious as to whether or not they check this .. I've donated but would gladly donate again for this implementation.. I would also like to see an easier implementation for deploying on your own domain with your own SSL certificate, it would be nice to not have to pop open the jar file and scour for instructions.. I registered a certificate but after i paid for it I found out I got the wrong kind of cert..

Just thoughts .. :)

I believe that Sindre reads the forums (because he occasionally replies to troubleshooting posts) but in general, he does not comment in the Feature Request forum unless he is working on coding in a particular feature.

He does keep an active TO-DO list here:
http://subsonic.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/subsonic/trunk/subsonic-main/TODO.TXT

So I'm not sure how much of the "+1" traffic he looks at...

But I can tell you that User Based folder access is on his to-do list twice... once as a suggestion from Gary, and once on it's own.
