Use As Music Server on Ubuntu Server

Postby KevinGW » Tue Nov 08, 2011 8:21 pm

Here is what I want to do. I want to put Subsonic on a box running the latest version of Ubuntu Server. I then want to manage that box remotely through a web browser perhaps. It will need to output the audio to the boxe's audio card. I plan on putting in a mid end usb dac. Can Subsonic do this?

Thnaks!

Absolutely. This is called "Jukebox Mode."

And with the next release (4.6 when it is finalized) combined with a new release from the Android Store, you will be able to control that jukebox machine from your droid phone too!

(My next step is to outfit a machine with a bunch of soundcards piped to speakers in the house, with multiple versions of Subsonic running, one for each room, in jukebox mode... should be cool.)

Thanks for the reply.

Do you need a GUI on the server or can it be just installed with command line?

Also, when the talk about it streaming what audio devices does it stream to?

Can you remote controle from IPhone or Ipad now?

Installs from the command line using dpkg -i

Debian/Ubuntu Installation Instructions

The rest of the setup/administration is handled through its internal webpage.

There is no application that allows remote control of the jukebox from anything other than a flash enabled web browser right now. The API commands for the control of the jukebox have just been added to the most recent beta version, and to my knowledge, only one person has attempted to integrate them into a mobile app with any success, and that is a fork of the standard subsonic.org released android client code...

But it's coming,
